The Pinecone classes have been finishing out their school year with an ABC Countdown! The last 26 days of school have featured a theme with one letter of the alphabet, starting with A and ending with Z! Today was the letter T and in the 3K classroom they had Theater Day! The kids got to design box cars at home to use at rest time for a “drive in” movie theater!

The NEF helped fund the Lake Superior Zoomobile coming down to Northwood to visit daycare and the Pinecone rooms this morning. The kids got to see an armadillo, a snake and cockroaches.

At 4:00 AM most of their classmates and teachers were still sleeping, but five Northwood high school students were already leaving the school's parking lot (two minutes AHEAD of schedule) enroute to the Namekagon Barrens Wildlife Area to watch some sharp-tailed grouse dance. One of the groups enjoyed a beautiful early summer walk after their birds danced for a little while and then flushed and never returned. The other group saw their seven males dance for hours, attracting several females to the dance party. These birds danced so hard for so long that they collapsed in exhaustion as soon as the females left. This trapped the students and the teacher, Mr. Mooney, in their blind when they'd planned to be driving back for first hour classes. Here is a link to the video: https://aptg.co/GRvfjv.
