On behalf of Congressman Tiffany, I am contacting you to let you know we will be hosting a Service Academy Day:
Saturday, April, 6, 2024 in Merrill - Northwoods Veterans Post - 601 Johnson Street, Merrill, WI 54452.
Registration begins at 9:30am and the program will last from 10:00am - 1:00pm. This event will consist of representatives from:
- U.S. Military Academy (West Point)
- U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis)
- U.S. Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs)
- U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point)
- U.S. Coast Guard Academy (New London)
- ROTC Representatives
The service academies offer young students a chance to not only attend one of the top colleges in the nation but to also serve their country in the process. To be appointed to a service academy, a student must obtain a nomination from a United States Congressional Representative, a United States Senator, or the Vice President of the United States. Due to the limited number of openings at each academy, and the large pool of applicants who strive to attend them, your students will want to take advantage of this informational session in order to be well prepared for the nomination process. Nominees are selected by a local panel of judges based on academic achievements, College Board Exam scores, motivation, civic involvement, leadership skills, physical aptitude, and character through an interview process.
Acceptance and attendance at one of the service academies is considered a full-ride scholarship and upon graduation, the cadet or midshipman is commissioned as an officer in our Armed Forces.
It is our hope you will share the opportunity with your students in all grades so they can plan to attend our Service Academy Day in Merrill. We encourage younger students to attend so they can make informed decisions and set goals for obtaining a nomination in the future. Deadline for all applications will be Friday, September 27th at 5:00pm.
