2015 Full delegation in the Wisconsin State Assembly Chambers Superior Days is a grassroots community-based effort to bring issues of importance to Northwestern Wisconsin to the attention of the State Legislature. Youth delegates play a key role in this effort. The purpose of their participation is to increase the knowledge and civic skills of youth in the Superior Days process, to raise perceptions among adults as to the contributions that area youth can make through adult-youth partnerships, and assist teens in communicating with state government through a development of a “Youth Agenda.”
Northwood students have been a part of the delegation since 2010. In 2011 and 2014, the Northwood students presented an issue that they developed and brought to the Department of Transportation concerning the dangerous intersection at Highways 77 and 53, where there have been several fatal accidents.
One highlight for students was in 2014, when Northwood student Betsy Hall introduced Governor Walker at a morning meeting.
As a part of the youth delegation, students attend several meetings in Superior and work in concert with adult business leaders, government leaders, and community activists to brainstorm ideas, form issues, and prepare communication strategies for the lobbying trip.
